If you decide to try UE for yourself, there are some things you should realize. First and foremost, it is illegal. At the very least, you can be caught by someone and given a warning, be charged with trespassing, or any number of other things. Secondly, it can be dangerous. If you're visiting places that have been closed down for awhile, remember that it has most likely been completely neglected. The structure may not be as stable as you think, or there could be dangerous things sitting where you walk. Watch your step, and be careful. Pay attention to your surroundings, and where you're walking. If you see a better path versus a quicker path, take the better path.

Also remember to be prepared. Always bring a flashlight, even if you're visiting somewhere during the day. Wear tough shoes and clothing. If at all possible, bring friends along. It's also a good idea to bring a camera, and a notepad and/or handheld recorder if you're so inclined.

Finally, and most importantly, respect the places you visit. You should be exploring to explore, not to vandalize or destroy. Disturb as little as possible. Don't steal anything, don't litter, don't spray paint. The idea is to leave it as you found it.
